MetaDoctor App Reviews
Meta Doctor is just what I was looking for to edit home movies compiled with iMovie. Meta Doctor makes adding chapter names and cover art a snap. In minutes I had chapter titles added to my home video files making them easy to navigate. I recommend Meta Doctor to anyone who is looking for a video editing solution!
I mainly use MetaDoctor to add chapters to some of my .mp4s and there as there are really no other apps on the Mac that do that. I had an issue with my files working in Plex, and the developer responded and fixed the issue quickly. An overall great metadata tagger with excellent support.
Does what it says
Hard to believe I had to BUY software to edit .mp4s so that the artist name is in the artist field and the title is in the title field, but here we are. I download karaoke files and import into Lyrx. If the metadata is correct, this is an extremely simple process. This software allows me to manually edit the metadata. Easy enough to use but can't minimize and doesn't have a batch feature, or least it's hidden if it does.
Food for thought
Being able to select multiple files to work on would be nice. Other than that the metadata lookup so far works well.
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS SEARCHING FOR!
if I could give this application 10 stars I would, no exaggeration. I was searching for a .MOV metadata editor on google, and let me tell you. this does the job! not only was I able to edit the tags on my video files, but it kept everything else intact, cover art, other video info, super pleased with this app! bough the app and upgraded to pro to show support. runs perfect on ventura 13.6.1 M2 chip
Batching TMDB info invaluable
I had dozens of files with useless Title field metadata, which Apple's TV app used instead of the useful file names I had. I bought the Pro upgrade to get TMDB and batch processing support, and saved myself tons of time trying to manually rename everything in TV app, and also got all the rich description, etc. info and cover art as a bonus!
Good program but.
It is a good program but it need backup or go forward on second at a time to esaly find the the correct location to set a chapter mark.
Picks Up Where iMovie Left Off
I purchased this application on a whim as I was creating my family's Home Video DVD. I wanted to take it up a notch by including skipable chapters, a feature of MetaDoctor. While I came into the application with a simple task, I ended up using several of the neat features that MetaDoctor includes and ended up upgrading to MetaDoctor Pro to utilize a couple more features. In the end, I have felt that this purchase was well worth it and I am super pleased with the results of my project thanks to the 'extras' MetaDoctor Pro has allowed me to add to my project!
Useless for me
I purchased this based on other reviews saying it's a must for anyone with a large media collection, but this works on a very limited selection of file formats. I misread m4v as mkv, which is what most of my collection is is. Further to that, it doesn't even show metadata that I know to be certain mp4 files I'm working with.
Great with Handbrake/Plex
I was looking for a simple, reliable metadata editor to use with my handbrake files as I prepared them for Plex and this cannot be beat
Such a Good Utility
I have tried a lot of apps that implied they could do some of the things this one can do. Sadly none could meet their own claims well. Fortunately I found this wonderful treasure. Very soon after I began working with it I upgraded to the Pro version. This app has been able to do everything I have been wanting and it's rock solid! Obviously, highly recommended! As a side note, there are only three two-star reviews, no one-star or three-star. That's quite a record for any application, particularly one with a rich feature set. I am bringing this up to let any current reader of these reviews know that two of the negatives mentioned are non-existent at this time. I do not know if the earlier versions had the missed capabilities or not. I just want this version to not be overlooked due to those reviews.
Wasted money!
You can only edit one file at a time. This is the first thing you see when you click on support after downloading so your which tells me this is the common expectation and a recurring let down. You might as well just click on "get info" and hand-jam each one individually same concept.
Meh. It's OK
It does function and it's stavle, etc. I wish it would look up metadata for me, though. If it did that, I would probably upgrade to a paid version.
All day looking for something for movie meta..
This one works. All the other well publicized meta taggers that I tried (6 of them?) crashed or hung, then crashed later. Yes.. even the subscription based ones which you would think would be dependable, we slow and crashy. Maybe I will find things along the way I won't like or wish was different - but I'm happily tagging now and thats more than any other program was offering. This one is well made and just works.
It does not work with iDVD
The application is simple and to the point and it may be great with other applications. For me, however, I wasted $5.00 because it does not work with iDVD. The developer should clearly state this deficiency in the product description.
So Far So Good
I was updating an install and re-importing a lot of large videos into iTunes - and fixing the tags in the process. The files were taking forever to update with iTunes. I decided to look up other methods of editing the tags. This one seemed to be the best reviewed though I couldn’t find anyone mentioning how long it took to save the file once tags were edited - this is just about instantaneous. I just removed file from itunes, edited the tags in this and re added it and it was good to go (may be an easier way of updating but just figuring it out for now)
Just what I needed
I’m an amateur videographer, recording around 8-10 dance and theater performances per year. Although it’s strictly a hobby, I still like to create and share something that looks nice, and it’s important to me that the video file be tagged nicely and have chapter markers. I found MetaDoctor because I was tired of struggling with chapter markers in Final Cut Pro. I really can’t understand why something so basic is constantly such a headache in FCP - it seems like my workflow for creating chapter markers in FCP is only successful about half the time (or less), and I have repeatedly spent hours on workarounds only to find that what worked last time isn’t working this time. I have finally given up on chapter markers in FCP, and I’m thrilled to report that it was a breeze in MetaDoctor. Also, because I share multiple quality versions of my files, I sprung for the pro version to easily copy chapter markers and tags from one file to another. I feel the $10 I spent on this software is an absolute bargain relative to the time I’ve spent struggling in the past. Big thanks to th developer!
Would not load… never got anything for the cost
NOt clear whether the author or Apple or both are screwing up. Support does not seem applicable…
Great metadata editor from a great developer
